Playstation’s “State of Play” Short but Sweet. Showcases Final Fantasy VII Remake

Sony took another swing at its State of Play community updates, bringing a few interesting game announcements, as well as a pleasant surprise at the end. You can catch the whole thing in the video above, or just read the recap below.

First Up: “Monster Hunter World: Iceborne”

Starting off the video was a cinematic/gameplay trailer for Monster Hunter World’s new Iceborne expansion. You’ll have to excuse my cold reception (and bad puns) but I’ve never gotten into the Monster Hunter series. The biggest takeaway was a September 6th release date, as well as some pre-order and deluxe version bonuses.

Crossover Skins for the Cute Looking Shoot and Slash, “Riverbond”

Everybody’s favorite grave digger, Shovel Knight, will be making an appearance, along with a party of other characters. Whether you’re interested in the game or not, you might as well watch the video just to brighten your day, as the visuals for this game are beautiful. Riverbond is also going to have 4 player couch coop, which is a very welcome edition to a gaming industry that seems to want to move away from playing games in person on the same television.

“Reveal” Trailer for a new “Predator” Game

If you’re wondering why I put reveal in parenthesis, it’s because nothing was revealed but a name and a short cinematic. Feel free to skip. If you’ve seen any Predator movie, just imagine a suspense scene and shorten it to thirty seconds.

Remake for “MediEvil”

I’m not one to speak on what I know nothing about, so I’ll let the trailer above speak for itself. MediEvil is a remake of the 1998, OG Playstation game of the same title.

“AWAY: The Survival Series”

In what turned out to be my favorite announcement of the day, AWAY’s announce trailer struck all the right cords for me; gameplay, story concepts, and creative ideas. AWAY throws you to the bottom of the food chain as you try survive in an environment where everything wants you dead, including the environment itself! The visuals look stunning to boot, as you’ll experience exotic fauna and wildlife though the eyes of some tiny creature I can only describe as a squirrel/lemur hybrid. I never realized how much I wanted to play as a flying squirrel creature in what looks to be a post-apocalyptic Earth until I saw this trailer.

A Limited Edition PS4-Days of Play

The console will come with 1Tb hard drive and a matching Dualshock controller. Nothing special, though the timing for releasing a new console variant seems odd. But eh, I’ve seen Nintendo do worse.

“Final Fantasy VII” Remake Trailer

And finally, four years after the official announcement, Final Fantasy VII remake finally gets a new trailer! Yes, four years, looks like Cloud isn’t the only guy with an abnormally large sword who disappears for years at a time. But presently, enjoy his return in all its glory above!

Sorry Guts, but at least Cloud got invited to Super Smash Bros. between now and his last appearance.
